When I upgraded to Mavericks thats when the issue arose. I managed to downgrade to Mountain Lion since my new Mac shipped with Mountain Lion although Im not sure its necessary to downgrade once you do what I did to fix the noise issue. I have Pro-Tools 8.

There are certainly compatibility issues with OSX and third party software and devices, and both Apple and Avid Digidesign don't want to deal with anyone that does'nt want to upgrade to the newest stuff, but for those of us that cannot afford to upgrade and need to work, this is a solution.

Next time I opened PT, no sound again. Checked USB ports. Had the same issue. Did a re-install. Updated all drivers. Found PT9 was still in my Apps and heard that could have been the issue, the uninstaller doesnt work with newest OS so I manually went in and deleted all files. Then re-installed PT11 and all drivers. Had my guy who is a sound engineer and technical guru out in Cali remote control and go through all my settings, and he said they all look normal.

Pro Tools won't start due to "Unable to Locate Hardware" which is already plugged in (by usb).

I'm at wits end. Been contemplating buying a new computer or switching to another program. I've seen many people on forums with the same issue but no real answer that I've found. So I've come to the reddit professionals because this site and community have never let me down.

Did you know that your browser is out of date?

So anyone know what this could be? I've seen one fix about the headphone output channel. I havent found the settings that determine which channels are used by which output but they all look good to me. Channels line up on output settings, all tracks, and the master fader. I have the 3rd gen and my hardware powers on.

There's also this weird thing where sound output only works when the mbox is connected to the computer via usb dongle. That was also an older workaround, but maybe worth a try if you have a usb extender laying around. I sold my macbook and used the funds to build a PC that rapes and runs multiple versions of pro tools. I insist others try the same. I have an MBox 2 and I could never get it to work with Mavericks and all the support files I could find basically said tough luck. PT 11 also isn't supported with your computer anymore, but it will still work.
