Evoluent verticalmouse 4 for mac review

I almost did. I contacted the company and explained to them the issues I had with this mouse. They recommended I swap it out for a wired version. I didn't want a wired version. The bluetooth technology in the mouse draws interference easily with any other bluetooth devices around.

Having the bluetooth setting active on my iphone near my desk causes this mouse to loose connectivity, not completely, but it looses tracking on the screen and performs poorly. You have to turn it off and back on for it to connect and perform normally again, but it doesn't last long before you have to do it again. Also, I was not able to use an Apple bluetooth keyboard with this mouse.

It caused the same problem. I don't know if non-apple products will cause this because that is all I have so I can not state how it would perform with other bluetooth products. All I know it that it did NOT perform well with my apple bluetooth devices near it. It is very inconvenient to not be able to use the bluetooth features on your phone and talk while on the computer.

I need to do this with clients regularly. On another note, it is very comfortable, nice design. Just poor bluetooth performance which makes it not really usable for me. Sort by. Biggest complaint about this mouse is the bluetooth logic. I am frequently moving around the office, taking my laptop with me, leaving the mouse behind. When this happens, I believe the mouse jacks up the power on the bluetooth I've had it connect from another floor on the other side of the building which kills the battery. If I leave the mouse "on" over the weekend, the battery is dead by Monday.

I don't want to have to turn the mouse off and on everytime I come to work. Also had some mechanical issues with the scroll wheel, and had to return for a replacement. Very disappointing I've now owned 3 of the 4 generations of this mouse, and this is far and away the best one ergonomically.

Bottom line

I have large, hamhock hands, and it's tough finding an ergonomic mouse that doesn't feel dainty in my paws. I'm also pleased that Evoluent is issuing their own driver program, rather than relying on third-party mouse drivers to map all the buttons. The only reason I'm not giving this mouse 5 stars is because I occasionally see the mouse start "stuttering" as it tracks across the screen.

Power cycling the mouse seems to fix the issue, but I haven't isolated whether it's a problem with the mouse, the driver, or the Bluetooth receiver in my Mac mini. Before I purchased this mouse, I had some bad carpal tunnel issues flare up from using my Magic Mouse to create a spreadsheet with over charts on it. The repetitive copy and paste, and then selection of data source made my wrist very painful for about a month afterwards, I had to wear a wrist brace.

The verdict

My co-worker let me borrow his Evoluent mouse to try and it took a few days to get use to it but it really seemed to help. I decided to order my own from Amazon and got a faulty one. I had a problem with the mouse tracking very jerky across the screen. I contacted Evoluent customer service, they contacted me right a way. They tried to help me trouble shoot and then offer the option to replace my mouse.

They had me destroy the old mouse and email them a photo of it prior to shipping out the new replacement. I got the replacement in a few days and it work great, just as expected my wrist is no longer in pain.

I highly recommend this mouse and this company for their exceptional customer service which is so rare now days. Thanks for making me a very happy customer. I thought the Magic Mouse was the best, but evoluent beats it by miles. First, there is a different feel the way you hold this mouse, but it starts to feel good in the first few minutes using this mouse. Programable keys and multiple adjustments is tracking and scrolling are good. My Magic Mouse goes through two batteries every other month.

First, put the AA Battery into the mouse and power it on. Once turned on, it should be discoverable as a Bluetooth device. On your iMac or MacBook open up your system preferences. Under Bluetooth select Add Device, and select the Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 if not immediately discoverable, try searching for Bluetooth devices.

Once paired, the mouse should work right away. Evoluent does have a downloadable software package, but it's not necessary for regular use. Within the UI you can reassign button functions, adjust cursor speed, and determine how many lines one click of the scroll wheel will go through. While useful for fine tuning, I didn't find much need for the software as the mouse is well configured right out of the box. The new design will look good next to your iMac or MacBook Pro, but without the broad compatibility of the original, the previous, wired VerticalMouse 4 retains its Editors' Choice for ergonomic mice.
